Getting in the spirit

I love that this year, I get to decorate for Christmas in my own home, with my roommates.  I have never really gotten excited for decorating because my mom is a real life Martha Stewart.  But this year, I get to bring the spirit into the dorms and discover my own style.

Day 7

Last night, I had a real heart to heart with the roommates. I don't think I have ever had friends that I was this close to, besides my best friend who lived with me during the last month of high school.  The level of trust and dependence that I have built with these girls has allowed me to build some of the most powerful and meaningful relationships I have ever had. It's not about the amount of time you have known your friends, it is about the moments that you share.  Compared to people I have known for years to these wonderful individuals who I've known for months, I would never trade time for depth.

Day 6 blogging challenge

Today was the last home game at ASU and on top of whipping the other team, guest appearance for the Fray after the game.  So many different memories and feelings are attached to their song, "you found me."  I remember when this song brought me to tears the first time I heard it, back when life seemed so broken and I was so lost, and had no idea who I was.  The line, "why'd you have to wait to find me" reminds me of the loved ones I've had who have been abandoned and broken by the world, the people I've seen come to God because they hit rock bottom.  It is amazing to me that something as simple as a song, a conglomeration of chords and lyrics, could hold so much truth and inflict so many emotions to surface.  Music is food for the soul, we feel so satisfied when we can relate to a song, and I think it is because we find comfort knowing other people have felt as low as we have, have felt lost and afraid.

Day 5 blogging challenge

Today we ventured to downtown Phoenix to go to the Phoenix Art Museum for an art project.  I bought my first ticket for the light rail with my group of human event friends and took the risk of getting lost.  But it was special because it was an act of independence, it was a moment with friends who shared stories about life and other moments.

Day 3 Blogging Challenge

After an amazing premiere of Mockingjay Part 1 with the conglomeration of friends that I have acquired that live on my dorm floor, we took the party to Red Robbin and had the most amazing milk shakes and refried donuts, it made my life.  The moments that I spend with these people create a large portion of my experience of college.  Although I have only known these people for a few short months, it feels as if I have known them my entire life.  I have shared more amazing memories with people I didn't even knew existed 4 months ago, than the people I spent all four years in high school.  The little laughs, the weird jokes and random conversations compile into the building blocks that created my freshman year.

Day 2 challege

Day 2 of the Blogging Challenge, operation: the little things.
Today I adventured with my roommates to this little drive thru shaved ice place where the spoons change color due to increase/decrease in temperature.  It was the most amazingly random token that made me smile and caused the car to be instantaneously filled with laughter.  It was a surprise that made my day, a surprise that I would never think would have such an effect on me but did.  At this point, it has become a very important thing for me to recognize and appreciate the smallest tokens that bring a smile to my face.

Blogging challenge

I declare that life is too short to let the down turns define how my days go.  From this point on, I will grasp onto all the wonderful little things that life grants me, the blessings that surprise me on every corner and the new opportunities that fill the air.  Furthermore, I am going to make it a personal challenge to take a picture of something that makes me and others smile because the world needs more positivity to outweigh the bad that lurks in the shadows.

DAY 1:

A friend living on my dorm floor gave me a free mockingjay pin because the premiere for Mockingjay is on Wednesday!!!!  SO EXCITED!!!  I have decided that I will be wearing said pin for the next month straight in support of my favorite actress, J. Law.
